Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
The Professional Land Surveyor is responsible for guiding survey projects from initial research and field coordination through plan preparation, certification, client communication, and project closeout. This role requires strong technical judgment, efficient workflow management, clear communication, and the ability to represent Grady Consulting professionally with clients, staff, and approving authorities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform traverse surveys and related calculations for large projects, ensuring field data is accurate, complete, and suitable for plan preparation and certification.

  • Research project records, establish survey control, perform field survey work, document existing and as-built conditions, and prepare or complete plans when required.

  • Review, stamp, and certify survey plans in accordance with applicable professional standards and responsibilities as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor.

  • Develop and use efficient workflows that help projects move forward with minimal unnecessary site visits. Coordinate with GC staff to schedule survey work and equipment availability, and keep the company calendar accurate and up to date.

  • Understand each project’s scope, budget, and cost expectations. Communicate promptly with GC staff and principals about scope creep, budget concerns, workflow inefficiencies, and potential overages. Follow established timesheet entry procedures to support project cost review and seamless invoicing, and demonstrate a consistent commitment to improving project efficiency and minimizing budget overages.

  • Communicate effectively with GC staff, clients, and approving authorities from project kickoff through completion and invoicing. Coordinate survey crews and equipment, maintain organized project records, communicate delays or staffing and scheduling issues, provide client status updates, and send deliverables by email or mail as appropriate. Use clear communication and organized scheduling to minimize delays between field work and the finished product.

  • Possess and maintain current sUAS Pilot Certification; plan safe and efficient flight paths for project sites; conduct drone flights in compliance with FAA regulations, local restrictions, client requirements, and company safety procedures; coordinate flight schedules with field crews and project managers; capture aerial imagery and site data needed for survey, existing conditions, as-built documentation, progress monitoring, and visualization; maintain organized flight records, project files, and equipment logs; and promptly communicate weather, access, equipment, or data-quality concerns to GC staff and clients.

  • Manage, mentor, train, and delegate assignments to survey staff to support accurate, efficient, and timely project completion.

  • Demonstrate strong internal and external communication skills, including clear written communication, timely follow-up, and professional interaction with staff, clients, and approving authorities.

  • Represent GC and its clients with respect, courtesy, and honesty. Make sound decisions when acting on behalf of GC and its clients, and support future business by maintaining professional relationships and delivering quality service.

  • Stay current with AEC Collection software updates and learn additional software tools as visualization and project-delivery needs continue to evolve.

  • Maintain appropriate care of company equipment, vehicles, and the work environment.

  • Contribute to GC’s professional image by submitting appropriate project updates, photos, or other content for company social media use.

  • Cultivate new business opportunities through established relationships and professional client service.


Professional Engineer

This role offers a balanced mix of field and office work, with opportunities to support site design, permitting, construction support, and municipal review processes from project kickoff through completion.

The successful candidate will possess Massachusetts P.E. registration and soil evaluation certification. Duties include field survey with a mixture of total stations, robotic total stations, GPS, 3d laser scanning equipment and electronic data collectors under the supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor. Knowledge and experience with this equipment is helpful but not a requirement for employment.

Candidate will be responsible for processing field data for drafting primarily in AutoCAD Civil 3d, preparing design plans under the supervision of a Principal Engineer, drainage calculations, preparing permit applications, presenting applications to local municipalities and providing construction support including as-built surveys and inspections.

Previous experience with AutoCAD Civil 3d is a prerequisite for employment. Strong communication skills with supervisors, coworkers, clients and contractors are essential. Distribution of work is approximately 35% field/job site and 65% office but varies depending on the projects assigned.


Civil Engineering Designer (ON HOLD)
The successful candidate will either possess or be eligible to obtain Massachusetts FE/EIT certification. Duties include field survey with a mixture of total stations, robotic total stations, GPS, 3d laser scanning equipment and electronic data collectors under the supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor.  Knowledge and experience with this equipment is helpful but not a requirement for employment. 

Candidate will be responsible for processing field data for drafting primarily in AutoCAD Civil 3d, preparing design plans under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, drainage calculations, preparing permit applications, presenting applications to local municipalities and providing construction support including as-built surveys and inspections.

Land Survey Technician (ON HOLD)
The successful candidate will have strong mathematical skills and an interest in land surveying processes and procedures. The position involves approximately 50% field and 50% office time. Duties include boundary line traverse survey, topographic/detail survey, downloading/post-processing of survey data, prepare Existing Conditions Plans, construction layout utilizing total stations, data collectors, GPS and 3d laser scanning equipment, and care of equipment and vehicles.

Candidates possess effective communication and computer skills, the capacity to work in a customer-service-focused environment, and the ability to represent Grady Consulting with professionalism.  Experience with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software a plus!

A Land Survey Technician at Grady Consulting works on a wide variety of ongoing commercial and residential projects with the latest technology typically seen in larger Boston firms without the Boston commute!  This position is supervised by a Professional Land Surveyor.  Our Land Survey Technicians are encouraged and supported to work toward obtaining his/her surveyor license.
